HOW TO SPOIL A GOOD MILKER.

A correspondent of the " Western Rural " says :—" A bad milter will spoil a first-rate cow, and a bad milker is one who is harsh and rough with a cow, milks irregularly, blow, and loses a little at each milking. A good milker milks ua near as possible at the same hour, milks quickly, and gets all the milk at every milking. He is also kind and gentle with the cow. If I find that my cows are foiling off, when I see no reasonable causo for it, I at once investigate the milking, and I invariably find the fault to be with the milker. Many years ago, when I was a hired man on a very large farm, and, after a few weeks service I was placed in charge of the men and the work, I had not only gained the confidence of my employer, but also of his moßt excellent and frugal wife. She said to me one morning that the cows were failing in their milk, and asked if I could account for it. I replied that I would see. The feed was good, and was at a time of the year when there should be the greatest flow. I thought it must be in the milking, and in a day or two I would get around it and milk myself. I did so, and in a few days increased the amount of milk 50 per cent. During the two years which I was there that woman depended on me to milk, or to see that it was properly done. Many years after, that good woman visited me at my own farm, and walked out with me to see my herd of cows. The old lady looked at me with a twinkle in her eye, and asked me if I milked them myself, saying, is they were hers, she would make me do it."
