AMBERLEY RACE MEETING.

A meeting of the stewards and committee of the late race meeting was held at McLean’s Hotel, Amberley, on Saturday. There were ten members present, and Mr Major was voted to the chair. The treasurer (Mr L. O. Williams) read the balance-sheet, and explained that very great difficulty had been experienced in getting in the promised subscriptions ; in fact, at the present time there was a very considerable sum outstanding. Had it not been for this the hon. secretary would have called the meeting before. When what might be fairly called good of the unpaid subscriptions were received, there would be a cash balance in hand of say £l3 12s 6d, and property in the shape of grand stand, saddling paddock, and hurdles of the estimated value of £35. It was resolved to pay the outstanding debts at once, a member of the committee present offering the loan of the small amount required to pay off all liabilities. The committee regretted that the state of finances did not allow of their presenting the hon. sec. with an honorarium at present, hut resolved that should the outstanding subscriptions be collected, the treasurer be instructed to send him a cheque for £5 ss, in recognition of his services towards the success of the late meeting. Votes of thanks to the chairman, hon. secretary, and treasurer terminated the meeting.
