LOCAL INDUSTRIES COMMISSION.
The above Commissioners have been sitting for some days in Christohuroh, being engaged principally in considering the information received from all parts of the colony, in reply to the circulars issued by the chairman since the 17th March. On Friday Messrs Allan and Charters, for the Ohristchurch Association for Fostering Local Industries, had, as we have already reported, a lengthy interview with the Commission, and discussed a great many subjects of interest with them. Later in the day Messrs Mason and Struthers attended the Commission and gave them full information regarding the twine used for string binders, the effeot of possible changes in the tariff on that industry, and other subjects of importance. Mr Burns has now gone North to join Messrs Tinne and Murray in conducting the inquiry in Auckland, while the remaining Commissioners are to go on with the work in the Middle Island. We understand that the Commission have already collected a great deal of valuable material.
