The Channel Squadron has been despatched to the Azores to search for her Majesty's ship Ataltanta, the training ship which succeeded the Eurydice, when the latter was lost. The new German Army Bill, which proposes to add annually about 30,000 men to the foroes of the empire, is being eagerly discussed in the Biechstag. The Bill provides for the creation of eleven new regiments of infantry, with forty batteries of artillery and one battery of engineers, causing an increased annual outlay of over £1,000,000. The Grand Cross of the Bath has been conferred upon Sir Stafford Northcote, the Chancellor of the Exohequor, and upon Lord John Manners, the Postmaster-General. Professor Lyon Play fair has been re-elected in the Liberal interest for the Universities of Edinburgh and St. Andrews. April 16. The Empress Eugenie, acoompanied by Sir Evelyn and Lady Wood, has arrived at Capetown in good health. She purposes proceeding immediately to Natal, and from thence to the spot where the Prince Imperial was killed.

April 19. A telegram from San Francisco states that on Saturday last a terrific explosion occurred in the town of Berkeley, in California, by which a gunpowder manufactory was blown up, and thirty persons killed. A large number of persons also were seriously injured. The disaster is said to have been caused by the negligence of one of the employes. The delay which has occurred in sending for a successor to Lord Beaconsfield for the purpose of forming a new Ministry creates considerable surprise. It has been announced that the Queen has a Cabinet Council for tomorrow for the purpose of considering the political situation and decidiog upon the choice of a successor to tho position of Premier. April 20th. The Right Hon. R, A. Cross, Secretary of State for the Home Department, in the Beaconsfield Cabinet, has had conferred upon him the Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath. The town of Marshfield, in the State of Missouri, has been totally destroyed by a hurricane. The ruins took fire during the gale, and increased the terrors of the situation. Some thousands of people were left homeless by the disaster. Active steps are being taken to send relief to the sufferers.
