AUCKLAND AUTUMN MEETING. [By Telegraph.] AUCKLAND, April 22. The Autumn Meeting took place to-day at Ellerslie. There a moderate attendance, but a large number of bookmakers were present. One totalisator was working at the races, and Mr Franck, in high dudgeon, refused the club’s terms, and placed his tent adjacent to the racecourse in Ellerslie Gardens. The totalisators were poorly patronised, and but little betting was done. Two accidents occurred. In the Hurdle Race Tom Finn broke his leg, and had to be shot. In the Autumn Handicap, the rider ot Malvern had his leg broken through being against a post, and was otherwise injured. The following are the events : Tradesmen’s Handicap, of 50 sovs. Distance, t mile. Mr Smith’s Maid of Honor ... 1 Mr Horsfall’s Ratcatcher ... 2 Mr Keith’s Soukar ... ... 3 Betting—2 to lon the field, 3to 1 Maid of Honor, 5 to 2 Soukar, 3 to 1 Grand Duchess, 4 to 1 Vampire, 5 to 1 Pisoatorious, 8 to 1 Loch Lomond. Pisoatorious, Grand Duchess, Golden Crown, and Saunterer also started. Saunterer went awayjwith the lead, closely followed by Maid of Honor, the rest stringing out. These two horses raced well together with a good lead until coming into the straight, when the field closed up. A geod contest ensued between Maid of Honor and Ratcatcher, and after a struggle Laing brought the mare in a winner by about a length in advance of Ratcatcher. Soukar third, with Loch Lomond on his quarters. Time—lmin. ISseo. Ellerslie Plate of 100 sovs, the second horse to receive 20 sovs out of the stakes. Distance, three-quarters of a mile. Mr Prince’s Hilarious 1 Mr Leonard’s Kenilworth ... 2 Mr Smith’s Tim Whiffler ... 3

Prince Charlie, Woolbroker, and Moonshine, also ran.

The start was a bad one, and Woolbroker hung on the post. Hilarious got away with the lead, followed pretty closely by Prince Charlie, with Kenilworth third. Entering the cutting Kenilworth came np, and shot past Prince Charlie, but could not get on terms with the favorite. Jones brought Tim Whiffler up to Mr Leonard’s colt, and between these two colts lay the fight for second place. The southern colt was never asked to go, but in a smart canter led up the straight. Taylor gave Kenilworth a taste of the whip on entering the straight, while Jones was hard at work on Tim Whiffler’ but could not take the second honors from Mr Leonard’s colt. Prince Charlie finished a good third, Woolbroker fourth. Time —Imin. 12aeo. Hurdle Race (Handicap) of 50 sovs. Distance, 2i miles, over 8 flights of hurdles. Mr Molvor’a Grey Momus 1 Mr Douglas’ Harkaway 2 Harold 3 Betting—s to 4 agst Grey Momus, 2to 1 Harkaway, 4 to 5 to I Harry Mount and Harold, 10 to 1 others, 3 to 1 bar one Loch Lomond.

Harry Mount, Tom Finn, Sportsman, Whitefoot, The lark, and Stella also started. Whitefoot was the first to negotiate the timber, with Harold second, Grey Momus third. In this order the second hurdle was reached, and Harkaway knocked it down. At the third hurdle Tom Finn came to grief through striking heavily, and horse and rider came to the ground. At the fourth hurdle Harkaway came to the front, running straight through his horses. At the fifth jump Harold came up with a rush, and passed the stand leading hy a length, Whitefoot and Grey Momus racing neck and neck. Harold led over the sixth hurdle and into the cutting. Here all the jockeys commenced to ride, and Harkaway, Harry Mount, Harold, and Grey Momus got into a cluster. Mr Mdvor brought his horse to the front, and though Muir rode Harkaway well'at the finish,Grey Momus could not be touched again. Time, 3min. 54secs.

Autumn Handicap of 100 sots.; two miles. Mr Hunt's Yatapa 1 Mr Walters’ Libeller 2 Mr Horsfall's King Quail ... 3 Soukar and Saunterer were scratched. Resolution, Ariel, Vampire, Laertes, Xantippe, Sorcerer, and Malvern also started. Setting—lo to 1 agst Yatapa, 6 to 1 Libeller, 5 to 2 Resolution, 5 to 1 Laertes and King Quail, 20 to 1 Sorcerer. Libeller was a strong favorite, and Vampire, Malvern, and Resolution also found friends.

A moderately good start was managed, and a really fine race ensued. Libeller led off, and from first to last looked the winner. At the straight, however, Yatapa came up with a rush, and won cleverly on the post. Novel Handicap of 50 sovs.; one mile. Confident I Luna 2 Carney 3 Glenfin and Gillie Callum also ran. The winner was put up to auction and bought in by the owner at £33. Publicans’ Pubse of 60 sova; one mile. Mr Smith’s Maid of Honor ... 1 Mr Keith’s Soukar 2 Mr Prince’s Hilarious 3 Betting—6 to 4 on Hilarious, 2 to 1 agst Maid of Honor, 3 and 4 to 1 agst the others. Kenilworth was scratched. Glenfin and Gillie Oallum also started. _ Won by a length, Soukar beating Hilarious by half a length for second place. This event brought the programme of the day’s racing to a close.
