THE MANAGEMENT OF BULLS.

Upon this subject a correspondent of tho “ Agricultural Gazette” wiites as follows: “ During my visits to various herds of Shorthorn stock, I have noticed the groat difference that prevails in the treatment of tho bulls In some, it positively seems a pleasure to the stockman to tell how savage the animals are, and a stranger is not permitted to handle or venture near them when brought out for inspection. Some there are who think it necessary to obtain mastery over a bull by fear, and beating is resorted to. In one case in my recollection, I remember a man being all but killed, who had adopted this treatment. I remember at a sale of young bulls, when tho parade took place, that it was thought necessary for two men to lead out each young animal from one herd, whilst a third walked in front with a thick stick, ar.d warned off the public. By means of gentleness, petting, and frequent handling, any bull that has not been spoilt in his youth may be led up and down almost by a child. From tho very first, as calves, they should bo accustomed to handling, frequently led out, and reared without fear of brutal treatment. Force should not be used unless they threaten to become intractable. No fear should over be shown of them, but they should be made to realise that roan is not only thoir friend, but their master. It is a good plan, where practicable, to tie up the stock bull in tho shippon, for there they become accustomed to the regular companionship of man, and are handled or potted every time feeding or milking ia going on.
