MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, April 20. [Before Q- L, Hellish, Esq , R.M.] Dbunk and Disorderly,—A first offender was fined ss. One drunkard was fined 20a. ILLEGALLY OK PBBMIbES. — Tom Hopkins was charged with being illegally on the promises of John Hadcock. The offence, which was not an aggravated one, was admitted, and as the man was unknown to the police, the Bench dismissed the charge. Public Works Act.—A lad named James Carter was summoned for throwing stones at a railway carriage. The case had been adjourned from the previous day for additional evidence to be obtained. The fresh evidence of Wm. Sillier, a railway porter, fixed the 7th April as the day the offence was committed. Hiaj Worship said he was notjdispoacd to take a serious view of the case, and as there existed a certain amount of doubt about it, he would give the defendant the benefit of it, and dismiss the charge, but he must be more careful for the future.
