On Saturday the championship races of the Pioneer Bicycle Club were held on the cinder path in Hag'ley P*rk. There waa a very good attendance, about 1500 peoplo being present. Tho first race on the programme was the One Mile, for which three had entered, and which resulted aa follows : Hubbard 1 Fox 2 Farr 0 Fox dashed off with the load, Hubbard Becond, and Farr third. This position waß maintained till the end of the Beyond lap, when Furr, who was evidently saving himself for the next race, retired. R-'.bbard then gradually gained on Fox, and at the finish of tho last lap put on a tremendous spurt and passed him, winning by about three yards in tho very fast tima of 3min. lttsec. The next race, tho Five Mile, lay between Searell and Farr, Gough being scratched on account of feeling unwell : Farr 1 Searell 2 Searoll took the lead until the third mile, when Furr passed him. In the beginning of the fourth mile one of Searell's pedals came looso, leaving Farr to win as he liked. Time, 21min. 30aec. The last race on the programme, the Twenty Mile, was tho most exciting one of the day. For this threo competed, Allison, Fox, and Dalton : Dalton 1 Fox 2 Allison 3 Fox went away with the leid, closely followed by Dalton and Allison. Fox kept first; place till the fifth mile, when Allison passed tho two leaders, but was deprived of tho lead by Dilton Bhorlly afterwards. From tho eighth to the sixteenth mile each alternately led. In the first lap of the seventeenth mile Dalton waa first, Fox Becond, and Allison third, all very cloee together. The pace wus evidently getting too warm for Allison, who gradually foil back, and left the race to I>a'.ton and Fox. When the bell rang for the first lap of the last mile both men spurted, but the staying powers of Dalton eventually landed him tho winner by two yards. Allison was about one lap and a quarter behind. All three men received quite an ovation on returning to the tent. Time, lhr. 22min. lOatcs. These championehipa will be competed for annually. The times of tho races was good, conside: ing the heavy state of the path, caused by the late ruins. Very good order was maintained, and the course was kept clear by three conßtablea and ono mounted trooper. Mr Bachelor acted aa starter and judge, Mr 8. C. Furr timekeeper, and Mr Gough lapkeeper. A collection in aid of the funds of tho P.B.C. was made at the eutranco to the park, and the liberal response will asaist in defraying expenses necessarily incurred for the event.
