Salamanca, i-hip, 1202 tons, Robson, for London. New Zealand Shipping Company, agents. The Salamanca sailed for London this forenoon. The s s. Penguin, ti sail for Wellington and North last night, wa- detained until to-day. She leaves this afternoon. The TJ.S.S. Company's steamer Penguin, Captain Malcolm, arrived from Port Chalmers at 3 p.m. yesterday after a fine weather passage of eighteen hours. The wind was light S.VV. along the coast, with smooth sea. She sailed for Wellington and port 3 of the East Coast late last night, The s.s. Penguin yesterday brought on the passengers and cargo from Melbourne and Hobart Town, transhipped at Port Chalmers from the s.s. Tararua. The barque Sunbeam, of this port, well known for good passages, is out twenty-eight days to day from Newcastle. The Dumfriesshire, the last arrival from Newcastle, and which left there a day after the Sunbeam, met with light baffling winds across to Cape Farewell, where a slant of wind from the N.W. carried her through the Straits, making the passage to port in twenty days. The Sunbsam had probably shaped to the southward trying it " South about," and has been disappointed or has encountered the late heavy S.E. weather in the Straits. On arrival she will load for the Cape of Good Hope. The ship Salamanca cleared yesterday for home, with a full cargo of grain, the thirteenth V633el despatched by the New Zealand Shipping Company this season. The Salamanca was berthed on March 2Gth, since which 1000 tons of coal have been discharged, and her present cargo of graiH, some 1700 tona, loaded. The Star of India tow 3 to the stream to-day. and yesterday the Palala was brought in and berthed. The Charlotte A. Littlefield, Captain Carver, here some time since, left Newcastle for Hong Kong March 31st. The Fleur de Lis, to load grain here for Messrs P. Cunningham and Co. and Messrs Royse, Stead and Co., was at Newcastle, loading for thi3 port, on the sth current. The Emperor and Island City left Newcastle on the Ist current, for this port, and the Examiner and Fawn on the 4th. The barque John Knox, Captain Davis, hence, arrived at Sydney March 31st, after a smart passage up of eight days. The s.s. Wanaka, arrived yesterday at 11 a.m., from Wellington, having made the passage in twenty-two hours, against a head wind and heavy head sea. She sailed for Akaroa in the evening.
