CRICKET.
VISITORS AND LAWYERS v. CHRISTCHURCH. The above match was arranged in order to give a few visitors at present in town an opportunity of having a day's cricket. The weather on Wednesday was notoonducivoto good play, but nevertheless Sir Wellington, who has on two previous occasions shown his power of scoring, played a grand innings, which was a treat to witness. The "Visitors were first at the wicket, and remained nearly all the afternoon. Messrs Wellington and Harbottle were first to represent them, and the former, after scoring a dozen, gave an easy chance to short-Blip, which Mr Redmayne succeeded in dropping. This oost his side much trouble and anxiety, as afterwards Mr Wellington scored freely off all the bowlers brought against him. He, however, lost his partner at 40, but Mr Reeves proved an efficient companion, as he ran while Mr Wallington scored. Runs came freely from all the bowlers except Mr Atack, who at firßt was in fine form, bowling eloven overs for 1 run and a wicket; but after this he changed to against the wind, and was not so successful. Mr Reeves played a good innings for 40, made by three 4's, three 3's, four 2's, and singles. He gave a chance just before he was caught, but, as is frequently the case, escaped. Mr Wallington continued his successful career until a fine catch by Mr Radmayne, at short-leg, caused his retirement, at which time tho score-sheot showed 141 to his credit. He gave a thance when he had scored about 100, and another just before he was caught, besides the one above-mentioned ; but his hitting was very clean and good, and showed that he can act on tho offensive aB well as defensive. His principal hits were twelvo 4's, eight 3's, and twenty-ono 2'e. After his departure the end soon came, and the innings closed for 220. The Christchurch eleven went in, and at the call of time had made 33 for one wicket. The following is the score : VISITORS AND LAWYERS. B. W. Wallington, c Radmayne, b Thomas 111 T. B.
