ST. MARY’S, ADDINGTON.
The Easter meeting of parishioners was hold in the schoolroom, on Friday evening last, the Rev. Herbert East presiding.
The Churchwardens apologised for being unable to present to the meeting their statement of the parish accounts, owing to the bank book having been mislaid, and suggested that the meeting should ad journ at its rising to a future evening to receive the balancesheet.
The election of parish officers was then proceeded with. The chairman nominated Mr William Pratt as clergyman’s churchwarden, and Mr J. L. Hobden was elected parishioners’ churchwarden for the ensuing year. The following gentlemen were then elected to serve on the vestry—Messrs G. Cooper, G. Evans, O. Ward, G. S. Reston, H. Lane, W. Lancaster, Merry, J. Munnings, and L. Inwood. The Chairman laid on the table the balancesheets of the Sunday School and Parochial Library accounts. Votes of thanks were passed to the choir, organist, Sunday school teachers, and church decorators.
The Chairman then opened the subject of raising a loan for the purpose of erecting a now church in place of the present one, for the bettor accommodation of worshippers. After a long discussion, in which the majority of the meeting concurred with the chairman in the desirableness of building a new church, provided a loan could be satisfactorily negotiated, the following resolution was adopted—“ That the chairman and the churchwardens be requested to obtain all the information they can with reference to negotiating a loan for church building purposes in the parish, and to lay such information before the vestry.” There being no other business to bring up, it was resolved—“ For the purpose of receiving the parish accounts, this meeting do adjourn to Monday, April 19th ”
