AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Friday, at 2 p.m. Present —Messrs A. Duncan (president), and W. Boag, W. Henderson, J. R. Hill, W. Holly, J. Mann, J. Moßeath, B. Sutherland, W. Norman, R. Wilkin, John Dean, and J. T. Ford.

Before going into the ordinary business, the Chairman called tho attention of tho committee to the prevalence of plouro-pneu-monia in the cattle of the North Island, and it would be for them to discuss the matter, with a view to determine whether any steps should be taken to chock the disease coming to the Middle Island. Perhaps Mr Wilkin could give some information upon the subject. Mr Wilkin said that he had seen the Hon. John Hall, who had informed him that the Piako had been declared an infected district, but that from the steps which had been taken by the Government and Cattle Boards, there was but little fear of the disease being carried beyond those limits. Perhaps it would be as well if the committee were to appoint a select committee to inquire into the whole subject. Mr J. R. Hill thought there was very little caußo for apprehension, the pleuro-pneumonia being confined to such a limited area. The Hon. John Hall here came in, and on learning the subject under discussion, said that the North Inland Cattle Boards were working very energetically to prevent the spread of cattle disease. The South Auckland Cattle Board had declared all places where the disease had made Ub appearance infected districts, and had iorbidden the removal of cattle from there.

Mr Henderson suggested as a means of allaying fear in the minds of the public bb to the importation of diseased cattle into Canterbury, that a quarantine station should be established at Quail Island. The suggestion appeared to find favor with the committee. After some further discussion upon the matter, the subject was allowed to drop, the general impression being that there was very little cause to fear the disease spreading beyond the infected areas in the North Island.

The election of departmental committees was then proceeded with, with the following result: —Finance committee —W. Norman, P. Cunningham, J. T. Ford, O. W. Money, T. Bruce, J. The motion was agreed to. It was further resolved, on the motion of Mr W.
