CANTERBURY FEMALE REFUGE
The usual monthly meeting of tho committee was held on Wednesday Lot. Present —H:s Lordship the Primate (president), the Very Rev. the Dean, Messrs J. P. Jameson (treasurer), EL W. Packer, W. Pratt, and J. Aldred (secretary). The expenditure for the month, including the cost of a now concrete tank, was £53 16s Id ; earnings for the same period, £25 Ss ; number of inmates, 13 ; infants, 9. The treasurer reported the receipt of several sums, one of them for £l, bearing the signature of “Palm Oil.” It was reported that the new wing would be in readiness to admit women under class B in about a fortnight’s time. The thanks of the meeting were presented to Mr Pratt for the gift of an ironing stove to the monthlv memorandum of the ladies’ committee the meeting was advised of the resignation of Mrs R flleston as lady president, in consequence of her early departure for Wellington, and a resolution was placed on record expressive of the committee’s high appreciation of the many and valuable services rendered by Mrs Rollestoa to the institution. The meeting was also advised that the ladies’ committee had.unanimously appointed Mrs J. Inelis as Mrs Rolleston’s successor, and Mrs Robison secretary.
