Hawea arrived this morning from Wellington, to sail f r Port Chalmers. The s.s. Arawata has been detained at Port Chalmers and will not arrive here until early tomorrow morning. A petition io the Secretary of Customs is being circulated amongst the masters of coasting vessels and of vessels trading to Kaipara. asking that a lighthouse be erected on the Kaipara North Head. The necessity for such light has been frequently urged by the masters of vessels arriving here from aipara. and the petition will doubtless be largely supported Captain Gundry, of the Tore , was yesterday obtaining signatures to it in Port. _ The brigantine Aratapu Captain Bower, formerly of the Magellan Cloud, arrived at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, from Kaipara. She was reported to have been seen in the Straits yesterday week by the Sea Bird, hut this was a mistake, as she then had not left Kaipara. Tho Aratapu crossed the Kaipara bar at 3 "0 p m. on the 31st, and had light easterly weather to Cape Campbell ; thence light northerly to arrival.
