THE CATHEDRAL.

"We take the folio wing items from the " Church News." The contract for the completion of the nave of the Cathedral was signed on March 2nd, and the contractors, Messrs W. Stocks and Co., are now proceeding with tho erection of the great eastern arch of tho nave. Dean Stanley has decided to give a font as a memorial to his brother, Captain Owen Stanley, R.N., who claimed tho sovereignty of this island for her Majesry, by thfl erection of the British flag at Akaroa, about forty years ago. A design for a font, prepared by Mr W. B. Mountfort, but to be executed in England, was accordingly Bent home by the Bishop to the Dean of Westminster by the last mail. The Ven. Archdeacon Willock has made a donation of £2O as a commencement to the Cathedral fund. The Commission wrote to tho Rev. 0. Bowen by the last mail, requesting him to lose no time in procuring the specification of the organ. The offer of Mrs Hawdon to erect a memorial window to her late husband has been accepted. An application has been made by Mr Joseph Palnnr on behalf of a "few old friends of the late Mr Hassal," who, "are desirous of putting up a window in the Cathedral to his memory." No doubt, says the "News," Mr Palmer's application will be accepted when tha Commission meets again. In the meantime we are requested to invite those who have any intention or desire to erect memorials of the same description to make application to the Dean, or the secretary and treasurer of the Commission, Mr C. R. Blakiston, without delay. By doing so within the next four months they will save the building fund the cost pro tanto of the ordinary Cathedral glass, which must bo otherwise ordered by that data. The window chosen for the memorial to Mr Hassal is the westernmost one of the south aisle.
