THE A.J.O. AUTUMN MEETING.

First Day—Easter Monday.
The autumn meeting of the Australian Jockey Club commenced on the Randwick course. The weather was fine, and the attendance good. The Hurdle race was won easily by Express, beating a small and indifferent field. Sweetmeat won the Autumn Stakes by a neck, though Suwarrow started a strong favorite with 5 to 4 on him, Caspian third. Grand Prix appropriated the Champagne Stakes, for which he was favorite, Waterloo, a Queensland horse, second, Sapphire third. The Leger proved a gift to Petria, who won easily by three lengths ; Nellie came next, and Pontiff third. There only six starters. Time, 3min. 21 4-10ieo. The Doncaster Handicap was won by Queensland. There was a chapter of accidents in this race. No loss than five horses fell. Santa Cruz was killed, and his jockey, Clarke, sustained a fracture of the skull, from which he has since died. Two other jockeys were also injured. Sunlight was second, and Master Avonel third. Lothair won the Trial Stakes, beating a good field; Claronza second, Nemo third. KOWAI PASS RACES. The following are tho weights for the HURDLE RACE. st.lb. st.lb.
