INTERPROVINCIAL RIFLE MATCH.

The third>nnual match between Otago and Canterbury was fired at tho Cashmere Rifle range, yesterday morning, and again resulted in a win for tho Otago men. The conditions were ten men each side. Ranges, 200, 500, and 600 yards—ten shots at each range. Confidence was freely expressed in the local team winning tho match, owing to the inability of Captain Wilson to bring up his best team from tho South, and such confidence was not misplaced until the laßt range was fired, when the Southerners beat our men by sixty points on that range. At the cloße of the 200 yards Otago led by four points, at the 500 by five points, and finally won by sixty-five points, a result entirely unlooked for. Lieutenant Appleby was elected captain of the local team. Twelve names were down to compete, and it was decided to draw lotß as to which two over tho required number should stand out. It fell to Cameron and Thompson,

and the captain then withdrew to allow Cameron to fire. The 600 yards was a severe trial to the members of the local team, and but two- decent scores were made, namely, by Marshall and Parker. Chapman had fired well up to the last range, having made seventy previous to commencing there, but then fell off altogether. On the Otago side Moore made a good score, and would have further increased it except for unfortunately making a bull's eye on the wrong target. Jack was the highest scorer of the match with ninetyseven. The following are the scores :

Major Wales captained the Otago men. At the close cheers were given for the respective sides and their captains. The Otago men returned to their homes by train last night.
