CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors was held at 11 a.m. yesterday, Present —Mr Wm. Montgomery (chairman), the Primate, Rev. C. Fraser, Messrs Bowen, Tosswill, Tancred, Grigg, Fereday, Reeves, Yeel. The report of the College committee, recommending the procuring of some bookcases, was adopted. The report of the Agricultural School committee was read. The Board, on the motion of Mr Tosswill, went into committee to consider the recommendations contained in the report. On resuming, the committee reported that the report had been adopted as follows The committee recommended that an examination for entrance and scholarships be held at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson, and Wellington on June Ist. Applicants to forward their names to the Registrar not later than Saturday, May Bth. Ages for entrance and scholarship examinations between fifteen and nineteen years. That the fees of the school b > nine guineas annually or three guineas per term. Rev. O. Fraser moved as an amendment, to have it recorded—“ That the age for entrance examination at the Agricultural College be from fifteen to twenty-two years.” Mr Tosswill seconded the amendment. Mr Grigg pointed out that since the resolution now proposed was discussed in committee several members had left. He would therefore suggest that the amendment should be withdrawn. The amendment was then put and negatived. The report of the estates committee was read, considered in committee, and adopted. On resuming, it was reported to the Board. The Chairman said that the regulations of the Board as to examinations, &s,, had been sent out over the colony. A valuable suggestion had been made by Mr Reeves, viz,, that they should send out a circular to the farmers’ societies throughout the colony, setting forth what the Agricultural College intended to teach. This suggestion had been acted upon, and circulars would be issued. [Hear, hear.] Mr Feioday desired to have a letter from Dr. Foster read. The Chairman ruled as this letter had no bearing on the business before the Board it would be out of order to read it. The Board then adjourned.
