LAND SALE.
The fact that good properties will, despite the hard times, fetch good prices was amply proved yesterday by the sale of the well known Berwick estate, the property of the late Mr John Stace. The estate is so favorably known that it was not at all surprising to find the large store of Messrs H. Matson and Co., where the sale was held, crowded, and that biddings were brisk. The land sold is about thirty-four acres in extent, and has frontage upon the extensions over the belt of several city streets, and also others which have been laid out. After those present had done justice to the hospitality of the firm, in the shape of a champagne luncheon, Mr John Matson proceeded to business. It is needless to say that he dilated with that eloquence of which he has so large a share on the importance ef the sale and the returns likely to result from investment, and to some purpose, as the prices given below will show. The estate had been subdivided into lots of about a quarter of an acre each. The following were the prices realisedLots 1, 3 and 4, £lO3 each ; 5, £11" ; 6. £US ; 7, £!2O ; 8 and 9, £115; 8a and 9a, £105; 10 and 11, £110; 12, £110; 13 and 14. each £165; 16 and 17, each £190; 18, £125; 19, £130; 23 and 24, £lO5 ; 25, £lO5 ; 26 and 27, £lO5 ; 28 and 29, £105; 30, £110; 31 and 32, £llO ; 33, £110; 34, £l'.o ; 35 and 36, each £110; 37, £llO ; 38, £105; 39, £>os; 40, £110; 42 and 43, each £llO ; 44, £llO ; 45, £llO ; 46, £llO ; 47, £110; 48, £lO5 ; 49 and 50, £lO5 ; 51, £lO7 10a ; 52, 53 and 54, £lO2 10s; 55 and 56, £105; 57 and 58, £110; 61, £110; 62, £115; 63 and 64, £llO ; 65 and 66, £llO ; 67, £105; 68 and 69, £76 10s; 70 and 71, £145 ; 72 and 73, £l4O ; 74 and 75, £76 10s ; 76 £75 10s ; 77 to 80, £76 10s; 81, £76; 82, £B2 10s; 83 and 84. £B7; 85. £B2 10s; 86, £135; 89. £115; 90 and 91, £105; 92, £lO2 10s ; 93, £BS; 94, £BS; 95, £BS ; 96. £B6; 97, £BS ; 97iand 100, £lO2 10s ; 101, £73 10s ; 102 and 103, £110; 103 a, £76; 104 to 107, £73 ; 108 and 109, £75.
