CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
A special meeting of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College had been called for yesterday aftarnoon, and at the appointed hour the following members of the Board were present:—The Chairman (Mr Montgomery), the Most Bev. the Primate, the Bev. Ohas. Fraser, Dr. Coward, Mr Yeel, Mr Fereday, and Mr Tosswill. After waiting the prescribed time for a sufficient number to form a quorum, and no other members putting in an appearance, the chairman declared the meeting to have lapsed. In doing so, however, he stated the object with which the meeting had been convened. It appeared that the ordinary day of meeting, which had been fixed for the last Monday in the month, would fall on Easter Monday, and as that was a holiday it was considered advisable to hold a special meeting at once, especially as the committee desired to obtain the sanction of the Board to the alterations they proposed in the regulations affecting candidates for agricultural scholarships, because it was necessary to advertise through the colony that the scholarships were open nnder the new conditions. He regretted, therefore, that a quorum could not be obtained on that occasion. The Chairman then suggested that it would be well, perhaps, for him to call another meeting of the Board for a day during the present week; either that or he could take upon himself the responsibility of doing what was necessary, but he should prefer to obtain the authority of the Board in the matter, to avoid the danger of forming a precedent. It was ultimately decided that Mr Montgomery should call a special meeting of the Board for Thursday next, at 11 o’clock a.m.
