NATIVE LAND COURT.
KAIAPOI. Saturday, March 20. [Before His Honor Judge Symonds and Hoani Taipua, Native Assessor.] The Court eat. at 10 a.m. The Rev. J. W. Stack attended, and gave evidence that he was acquainted with the respective hapus at Kaiapoi. Was aware that the Natives had petitioned to have their land claims heard. Had a copy of that petition, and personally knew the petitioners. Many who wore at Kaiapoi at the time Mr Duller came to apportion the lands had come from elsewhere, and resided there till the division was made, and then went away. The list of the eleven hapus consic’sred in the last two days were further gone into, and and Taitu Uape objected to his name being struck off the Ngaiterangiamoa hapu, as he was a native of Kaiapoi. He admitted having got fourteen acres from Mr Buller’s allotment and land elsewhere, this claim was disallowed. The following were then struck off
the different lists by the Rot. J. W. Stack ; On account of having land elsewhere : Tine Horan, Woreta Tainui, Pipini Waipapa, Ta Tura Takanui, Ihaia Tainui, Heara Horan, Makareta Horan, Teoti Pitama, Hana Tahuua, Mera Tahuna, Aperahama Tahnna, Tini Momo, Peno Tahui, Te One Watene, Pane Tan, Tare Tikao, Hera Haromona, and Teketewahi Tan. The following wore objected to and struck off at the request of other .Natives : Harieta Whakatau, Katarine Tuerapua, Mee Waharuki, Tini Tarapuki, Te Oni Behu, Ruera loikapua, Matano Piki, Neihana Tawha, Rupene Kiwi, Natanahira WarawarutUjTe Oni Mokomoko, Rawiri Poareare, Wikitoria Tan, Tane Kahutara, Hoani Howani Tan, Mata Tan, Kehaia Wirikau, Rupene Karu, Teruheno Karu. Te One Kaahu iclaimed to have his name inserted, but was opposed by Taro Te Kuka, who slated that neither claimant or his father were residents at Kaiapoi in Mr Buller’s time. Refused. Tire Tikao also applied, but was likewise refused. The lists were then decided to be correct with the exception of the claim of Teoti Pita Mntu. The Court adjourned till Monday at 2 p.m.
