RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr Blackett), Crs. Luxton, Robinson, Burt, Boyd, Johnston, Staples, and Ivory. Leave of absence wan granted to Or. Good. Letters were read—From the Union Bank of Australia and Bank of New Zealand, in reference to the Council’s account. It was decided to entertain the former. From the Charitable Aid officer. It was resolved to enquire how one recipient of the aid had become entitled to the tame. From Christchurch City Council, relative to discontinuance of Sunday trading. Thu Council endorsed the action taken, and agreed to co-operate in any action taken to prevent the desecration of the Sabbath. Ths question of payment by the Mandeville Road Board for shingle on the Bast town belt was discussed, when it was resolved to ask the Board for half of the cost as agreed upon. From Mr S. H. Andrews, Exeter, England, stating his wish to make a deed of gift of thirty acres of R.S. 2673 to the Corporation, to be used as a park or pleasure ground, and named the Maria Andrews park, as his wife had always retained a loving remembrance for Rangiora. Accepted, Mr Andrews to be thanked, and a deed sent to England for his signature. From the poundkeeper, forwarding £5 5s 6d, balance from sale of a horse. The balance in the bank, including subsidy, was stated to be £473 12s 6d. Accounts amounting to £l2l 15s 41 were passed. It was decided to have several drains cleared. The town clerk was asked to prepare the burgess list, and prepare the statement required before striking a rate, for next meeting. It was decided to ask the Colonial Treasurer on what basis the reductions were made from subsidies. Notices of motion were given, by Or. Robinson that the question of erecting municipal offices be considered at next meeting, and by Or. Boyd, that hawkers’ licenses be issued, the fee for each license to be 30a. The Council then adjourned.
