Labckny. —David Gray alias MoKillop was charged with stealing a coat value 10a, the property of John Crothers. The prisoner pleaded innocence, and, at the request of Mr Sub-Inspector O’Donnell, was remanded until the 22nd inst.

TBAVBiiiirQ Without a Ticket. —John Lawson was charged with this offence, also with refusing to pay his fare. The guard of the train in which the accused travelled stated that on that morning he came down from Eangiora without either money or ticket. His excuse was that ho had got the permission of the station-master at Rangiora, which he (the guard) thought highly improbable. In his defence the accused said that he had lost his pocket-book containing his ticket, and asked the station-master at Rangiora if be might travel to Christchurch on the security of his swag, which was worth £3. As the station-master did not say either “ Ay” or “ No” he (accused) took it as a tacit permission, and came on to Christchurch. He had no friends in Rangiora and meant to go to Lyttelton on board ship again. He was fined 20s.
