FEffINSULA JOCKEY CLUB RACES. Stewards—Mr S. Lee. Mr C. Haylock, Mr W. Coop, Mr E. Hay, Mr W. Birdling, sen., Mr Jos. Judge, Mr W. D. Gebbie, Mr A. G. ■Wiggins, Mr H. D. Buchanan. Mr F. Birdling, Mr J. Gebbie; judge. W. Birdling, sen ; starter, S. Johnston ; clerk of the scales, J. Duxbury ; clerk of course, G. A. Birdling. The annual meeting of the Peninsula Jockey Club •came off yesterday on the course, near Birdling's. The weather was favorable, but the threatening appearance of the morning no doubt militated against the attendance, which was not large. The various events were got off with most commendable punctuality, and the officials were one and all most assiduous in making the meeting pass off well. Mr Wascoe gave every satisfaction as caterer. Sport commenced with the Maiden Plate, which fell to Bemn. Kaspar 11., named, it is presumed, by Mr John Gebbie, after his old favorite, ran a fair second. He was not over well handled, or he would have shown to more advantage. Mr B. Shadbolt lauded the Hurdle Bace by the aid of the Australian Eclat, who won after a capital race with Tarewa. The latter fenced in better form than usual. "Venture, who ran so well last week at Tai Tapu, was never formidable after the first mile. Mr Castle followed up his success in the Maiden Plate by winning the Publicans' Puree with Malvina, an old performer on the Peninsula, iiclat lost whatever chance he may have had by carrying 151 b overweight, while Mr Judge's Blue Boy colt was quite out-paced. Orange Peel won the Peninsula Handicap comfortably from Tarewa, Blue Ribbon, the only other cont?stant, evidently not being himself, and cutting up most indifferently. Iho Consolation brought out a field of four, and resulted in a very close race between Blue Ribbon and Venture. The mare won eventually by a head. Details are appended. Maiden Plate of sovs, for district horses only that have never won an advertised race; weight for age. Distance abont one mile. Mr J. At the back of the course Kaspar took up the running and led to the turn, where Charlie's bolt was shot. There was a good race to the finish, Ream, who had the best of the piloting, winning by two lengths. Firefly was outpaced throughout. Handicap Hukdle Eacb of 15 sovs; open to all comers ; over eight flights of hurdles. About two miles. Mr B. Shadbolt's br h Eclat, by Camden, 6 yrs, lOst lOlbs (W. Shadbolt) 1 Mr J. Keith) 0 Unknown jumped off with the lead, which he retained to the first hm die, where he refused. Venture now took charge to the next obstacle but one, when she banlked, Eclat being the first over it, with Tarewa in close attendance. After another half-mile had been covered, Sheenan took Tarewa to the front and led by a length or so to the last hurdle, when Eclat came again, and outstaying the cheanut in the run in, won easily at the finish by four lengths, Unknown was third, and Venture was not persevered with.

Kaspar was scratched. At the fall of the flag Malvina and Eclat cut out the work and raced together at the back of the course, when the mate came away and won easily without being ever called on. Brown Boy acted as whipper in throughout, and was never in tho hunt. A protest was entered against the winner by the rider of Eclat on the ground of a cross. The protest was to be considered in the evening by the stewards. Peninsula Handicap of 25 sovs. About two miles; open. Mr J. McCansland's b g Orange Peel, by Diomedes, 6 yrs, 9st 41bs (Bell) 1 Mr T. Sheenan's ch g Tarowa, aged, 9st 91bs (Owner) 2 Mr B. Shadbolt's br c Bine Ribbon, 3 yrs, Bst (A. Shadbolt) 3 Blue Ribbon was quickest on his legs, and led for a few strides, but was speedily supplanted by his two opponents, who led alternately to the last half-mile, when Orange Peel came away and won comfortably by three lengths. A Hack Race brought the day's Hport to a conclusion. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Peninsula Club will be held shortly. Of this meeting due notice will be given, and as the leading sportsmen of the Peninsula are giving the matter their support the new club will make a start under very favorable auspices. _^___
