The Union Company's s.s. Ringarooma, Captain Chatfisld, arrived yesterday, at 10 30 a.m. from Melbourne and way ports. She left Melbourne at 2.45 p.m. March 3rd, Hobart Torm at 6 p m. on the sth, Bluff 5 p.m. March 9th, and Port Chalmers ou Wednesday. The steamer proceeded North aud for Sydney at 8 p.m. . ■ , The Pacific Mail Company having recently proposed to substitnte the magnificent steamships City of Tokio and City of Pekin for the City of Sydney and City of New York on the San Francisco line, the following details regarding them will be of interest:— The s.s. City of Tokio, commanded by Commodore Maurry, veteran captain of the Pacific Mail S.S. Co. s fleet, waß bail*; in May, 1874, by Messrs John Boach and Son, at cheater, Penn. She is an iron propeller, having four masts, four iron decks, six iron bulkheads, and is 423 ft loug at water mark, with 48ft beam and 27.8 ft depth, tonnage being 5080. Her engines are compound vertical direct acting, ten boilers, with three furnaces each. Saloon amidships, with Revolving chairs, &c. Registered at New lork; signal letters, jpnck Rated first class for twtmty years. The City of Pekin the same, with the exception of having been lannched by the same builders in March, 1874, her signal letters being jpni l . They wore both built for the trade between San Francisco and China and Japan, where they hive baen running since their arrival in the Pacific, bringing over at times cargoes of nearly 5000 tons of tea and silk. Arrived—Josephine, schooner, from Oamaru; Hinemoa, from Taranaki. Sailed— Wellington, for the North.
