ELLESMERE.

Our correspondent writes: Notwithstanding the long spell of favourable weather, threshing operations in this district seem to progress very slowly, and the delivery of grain at the railway stations is far from being pushed on as rapidly as the growers would wish. All the sheds, with the exception of the Ellosmore one, are completely bare of sacks. We have heard of several complaints of the want of threshing machines in the district. As a rule the crops are turning out very well, enormous returns of wheat, oats, and barley having in several instances been brought under notice. The quality of the grain is also very good, being plump, thin skinned and .bright, indeed, in the very beet condition for shipment to England and the neighbouring colonies. Several local farmers have shipped their oats to England, hoping to realise there a slight advance on present rates. Two or three scares from fires have been experienced. About three hundred sacks of wheat on Mr. McOormiek's farm were very nearly consumed just as the threshing machine was leaving the paddock. The fire was supposed to have been caused by a man lighting his pipe at the back of the straw heap. Fortunately there was plenty of help at hand, acd only a few of the outside bags were destroyed, although the bulk was more or less damaged. Captain Willis' fenoes caught fire another day, and the greatest difficulty was exprrienoed in beating out the stubble in time to save abou< ten large wheat and other stacks which were for some time in most imminent danger. In both instances the grain was not insured, so that had anything serious happened the loss to the growers would have been considerable.
