BEE DEMONSTRATION.

The interesting process of transferring a swarm of bees was shown in the public gardens on Monday afternoon by Dr. Irving. A number of country visitors were present, and in consequence of the impossibility of the chloroform process being generally adopted by residents in the country, Dr. Irving decided to employ driving. The swarm was a very heavy one, and included an immense quantity of young bees and well filled brood comb. The result of this was that the driving displaced only the older bees, and so rendered the subsequent work of transferring the sheets of comb to the bar frames more than ordinarily difficult. The entire process was nevertheless very satisfactorily demonstrated, and it is certain that the visitors gained some valuable knowledge in apiculture. The plan of extracting honey by the agency of the slinger was shown in the course of the demonstration, and the explanatory remarks accompanying each operation tended in no slight degree to the enjoyment of those present.
