SHOCKING OCOURRENCE ON THE RAILWAY.

A terrible accident happened on the railway yesterday evening, by which a young child was seriously injured. From what could bo gathered from those who were present, it appeared that as the train from Burnham neared the Christchurch station, a little girl named Eliza Gilpin, aged three and a half years, fell or slipped from the platform, and the train passed over her. When picked up the child was found to be alive, but seriously injured, the left arm being literally crushed and mutilated, and her left leg was fractured near the foot. She was at once conveyed to the Hospital by her friends, and on arrival there the arm was immediately amputated below the shoulder, and the leg dressed. The poor child suffered great agony, and it is only to be wondered at that she escaped from such a terrible experience with life.
