THE CANTERBURY LAND FUND.
As about £BOOO, portion of the £IOO.OOO due to the Canterbury Road Boards, had been retained by the Government, the Chairman of the Conference (Mr J. L. Wilson) communicated with the Premier on _ the subject, and he hae received the following letter in explanation : Wellington, N.Z., 3rd March, 1880. My dear Sir, —The reason that portion of the £IOO,OOO (about £8000) has been kept back is, that the Waimatc County Council claims a larger share than has hitherto been allotted to it. It was decided that until this question was determined, the amount should be hold in suspense, and the several local bodies interested should be informed by circular of the grounds on which this claim is made. They will thus have an opportunity of stating to the Government any objections they may entertain, before a final decision is arrived at. The circular will bo issued without any delay. You are at liberty to make any use you like of this letter. Tours faithfully, John Haw,. J. L. Wilson, Esq., Christchurch.
