CANTERBURY CRICKET ASSOCIATION.

A general meeting of the .Association was held oa Saturday last, in the United Canterbury Club’s pavilion. The president, Mr E. 0. J. Stevens, explained to the meeting that the object for which they were called together was to consider the financial position of the Association. At the commencement of the season the financial committee estimated the deficiency for the season, including the debit, balance from the previous year, would be about £BS, but this amount had since been reduced to an estimated deficiency of £45. It. would, therefore, be necessary to adopt som-> means to pay off all outstanding accounts, and it would bo for the meeting to decide what measures should be adopted to attain this object. Mr A. M. Ollivier explained that he had received a proposal from the Christchurch Club to carry out some sports and an entertainment in conjunction with the Association, provided the club were guaranteed £ls from the funds and received a half-share of the nett proceeds over £65. The scheme appeared to be a good one and likely to result satisfactorily to the Assooia.

tion. If this were not adopted, a subscription iiit would have to bo started to provide for the estimated deficiency. Mr R. J. S. Harman proposed—“ That a list bo opened and a committee from the various clubs be appointed to collect the necessary funds.” An amendment was moved by Mr Caygill —“ That the offer of the Christchurch Club be accepted.” Xho amendment was put to the meeting and lost, when a further amendment was moved —“ That the subscription list be in the first place confined to members of the clubs using the ground.” This was eventually added to the origins’, resolution and carried unanimously. A committee was then appointed, consisting of three members from each club —the United, Midland, and Christchurch. The following were elected —Messrs R. J. S. Harman, A. M, Ollivier, and W. P. Reeves, from the United; Messrs J, Pcwlor, E. T. A. Puller, and P. H. Morico, from the Midland ; and Messrs H. Y. Anson, Burley, and Booth, from the Christchurch. The meeting then adjourned.
