The New Zeabnd Shipping Company’s ship Piako Bailed for London this morning. The Anna Pall commenced to discharge yesterday at No 3 Jetty, for Adelaide. Tke points which have been placed on several of the jetties are found to be much more suitable for working the cargoes, and shifting the railway waggons, than the old system of turn tables. The railway department should have them placed on No 3 Jetty as soon as possible. The work at that wharf, with four vessels lying at it, would be greatly expedited were this done. The Huon Belle from Oatlin’s Eiver, arrived yesterday, and the Clio on Thursday night, from Waitapu. both timber laden. The steamers to leave to-day are the Wanaka for Port Chalmers, the Penguin for Wellington and Northern ports, and the Wanganui for Timaru,. Oamarn. and Dunedin. The brigantine Flirt, Captain MoDermld, arrived yesterday from Timarn in ballast, having left tha-e on Thursday morning. The Star of India. Captain Eoe. arrived yesterday with a c rgo of coal from Newcastle for Mr 0. W. Turner. She left there February 14tb, having been detained eight days waiting to cross the'bar Easterly weather was met with to Cape Farewell on March Ist, since which variab’e weather was experienced. The four-masted ship Benares, which arrived at London from Port Chalmers on December 12 th. during tbo homeward voyage ran through numerous icebergs three days to the northward of the Falkland Islands, and was compelled to luff up to clear some of them, and keep away to clear others; as many as_ fifty bergs could be seen from the ship’s deck in one day. The Clara was nnslipped at Messrs Grnbb and Co.’s yards yesterday, and one of the hopper barges taken on the slip in her place. The brigantine Darcy Pratt, Captain Dempsey, arrived yesterday from Oreymonth with a cargo of coal from Messrs Cunningham and Co. Sho left on Friday last in company with the Circe, also bound hither.
