IRISH DISTRESS FUND.
Taking advantage of a favorable opportunity that presented itself, His Worship the Mayor remitted a second instalmeit of this fund to the Lord Mayor of Dublin yesterday. It appeared that the Waimate committee were sending away £3OO collected in their district, and on communicating with the manager of the Bank of New Zealand, the Mayor of Christchurch determined to send what money he had in hand at the same time, by which means he effected a considerable saving in the cost of transmission. The second instalment amounted to £4OO, which, with tho £6OO previously dispatched, makes a total of £IOOO raised in Christchurch for the sufferers in Ireland. The Mayor desires it to bo known that all lists mutt be closed at the end of the present mouth, when, whatever balance there may be, will be forwarded to the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
