LYTTELTON. Feidat, Maech 5. [[Before J. T. Bouse, and H. Allwright, Esq.’s, J.P.’s.J Bbbach op Railway By-Laws—Henry Lunsford waa charged with getting off a passenger train whilst in motion. W. Maize, porter, testified to the circumstances. The Bench thought there was a defect in tie information and dismissed the case. Embezzling Ship’s Caego. James Hyram was a stowaway on board the ship Westland from Plymouth to this port, and on the 22nd January he was discovers broaching whisky, also was found in the storeroom, access to which was obtained by crawling over the tanks. Captain Wood could not say how much of the cargo was missing two of the empty cases only had been found. Hyram had offered a bottle of whiskey for sale for ss, and there was no possibility of his haring purchased it on board, as the ship had immigrants on board and no liquor waa sold on the ship. The police testified to haring interviewed Hyram in the cell after his arrest, and that he confessed to stealing two cases of whiskey, but said he was made to do it by other members of the crew. The chief officer and one of the apprentices gave evidence. Mr H. N. Nalder, who appeared for the prosecution, addressed the Bench, and the accused was sentenced to sir months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Joseph King, August Neilson, and Joseph Gilbert, seamen on board, were then charged with embezzling stores, and the prisoner just sentenced was called to give evidence. The men admitted to drinking the grog, but denied broaching the cargo; all hands drank the liquor, but without a criminal knowledge. The Bench sentenced them to fourteen days each, with hard labour, two cases of whiskey to bo paid for, at 50s per case, and costs. Joseph King and Patrick Sullivan, for deserting from the vessel, were sentenced to fourteen days’ hard labour.

Lahcent and Embezzlement.—James Hyram, just before sentenced to six months hard labour for embezzling cargo on the ship Westland, Mas charged with stealing a gold ring belonging to the chief officer, with stealing £2 10s, the property of John Gouldreck, and with embezzling ship’s stores, and was sentenced to three months' hard labour on the two first charges and six months for embezzling the stores.
