ARTILLERY COMPETITION.

The E Battery (Christchurch) having been second in the challenge emanating from the B Battery, Dunedin, sent out a second to all those who accepted the first. The latter was cheerfully responded to by all except the Oamaru and Port Chalmers Batteries. Oamaru wrote expressing regret and explaining that the conditions and date of firing had got defaced in transmission, and could not be made out till too late. Port Chalmers wrote that they could not shoot, as they had no carbines. The shooting on the whole was a great improvement on the previous competition excepting that of the G Battery, Invercargill, which met with most unfavorable weather. The A Battery, Auckland, and B Battery, Dunedin, strange to say, made the same number of points, while there was only one point of difference between the D and B Batteries. The B Battery is entitled to take first honors, as they made the highest score at the longest range. Dunedin is thus a second time victorious.

The highest score was made by SergeantArmourer Mapp, of the E Battery, Christchurch, who made 75. Appended is each Battery’s score, showing also that of the previous competition : Ist Match.
