Morning, 8.41 ; evening, 9.10. Arrived —March 1. Edith May. three masted schooner, 212 tons, Dobson, from Port Louis, Mauritius. Sclanders, Fletcher, and Co., agents. Thomas and Henry, brig, 219 tons, Marks, from Bluff. The schooner Edith May arrived this morning from the Mauritius, after a passage of forty-two days. Her cargo consists of sugar, some 150 ions, consigned to Messrs Sclanders, Bletcher and Co. . The brig Thomas and Henry arrived from Bluff this morning, with a cargo of timber. The ship Piako was moved on Saturday fromthe Gladstone Pier to finish loading at No. 4. She was making ready to receive some grain at the latter wharf. THE WAIMATE. After am official inspection of the ship by the health and immigration officers on Saturday.it was decided to admit the vessel to pratique. The formal notification arrives from Wellington this morning, r >nd an inspection will be mads by the Board of Trade officers at eleven a m., after which the passengers will be landed by the launch Lyttelton. The families of Messrs -Slocome and Johns still remain on Eipa Island. THE UNION COMPANY. Dunedin, March 1. The “ Times ” says, in connection with a statement that the Union Steam Shipping Company intended laying np some of their boats during winter, the following are the proposed new arrangements :—The Hawea, Wanaka, and Penguin are to bo withdrawn from the East Coast trade. The two first-named will be placed on the West Coast service, in the room of the Taiaroa and Waitaki. The Melbourne steamers will continue to run up the Fast Coast as far as Enasell. The Penguin and Ladybird will he laid up. The Taiaroa will probably be placed in the Dunedin-Timaru trade during the grain season. The Waitaki is to be placed between Tauranga, Auckland, Whangarei, and Enssell, making weekly trips. The running of steamers w ill be so regulated that the present service between Lyttelton and Wellington will be maintained. SHIPPING TELEQEAMS. Port Charmers, March 1. Sailed—Waitaki, for Lyttelton. Passengers —Miss Taylor, Captain Logan, Mr O’Gorr.
