CANTERBURY CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the general committee of the above association was held at the Commercial Hotel at 8 p.m. on Saturday last, to consider the financial position of the association, Mr B. 0. J. Stevens in the chair. The following members were present:—United Club— Messrs Ashby, Oondell (hon. sec. to the association), Million, W. 8., Ollivier, A. M., Secretan, and Sheath ; Midland Messrs Morice, Turner, G., and Watson; Christchurch —Booth and Caygill. The chairman having explained the object of the meeting, called upon the hon. secretary to state the present financial position of the association, which clearly showed that funds were urgently required to carry on the working expenses of the ground, and that capitation fees due by some of the members of clubs using the ground had not been paid up. Mr Ollivier moved, and Mr Million seconded the following resolution—“ That the ground committee be instructed to stop any club from playing on the ground which has not paid its capitation fee.” Carried. Considerable discussion then took place as to what means should be devised to raise funds, some members suggesting that subscription lists be started, whilst others were in favor of holding an athletic meeting on the cricket ground, the proceeds to go towards defraying the expenses of the association. Nothing definite however was arrived at. Mr Caygill moved, and Mr Watson seconded—“ That members of all clubs be requested to meet in tho United Club’s pavilion at 430 p.m. on the 6th proximo, to consider what steps should be taken re the finances of the association.” Carried. The hon. sec. undertook to advertise such meeting. The business of the meeting concluded with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman.
