The s.s. Penguin from Wellington, and the Hawea from Dunedin, arrived this forenoon. It is probable that the Waimate and the Westland will be berthed in the early part of ihe week. , The brigantine Island Lily, Captain Cooper, made the Heads at 11 p.m. on Thursday night from Chatham Islands, whence she left on the 22nd current. Fine weather with light easterly and north-east winds were experienced. Captain Cooper states that the whaler Alaska, Captain Fisher, sailed from the Islands on February 6th a full ship for New Bedford, no less than 750 barrels of oil having been secured during the last three months. The Triton, Captain Keith, left the Islands the same day on a short cruise, after returning from which she proceeds to Mongonui ti load up with oil, stored there, and thence home to New Bedford. Four whales had been captured the present season. The Dunedin whaling ship Splendid was spoken by the Alaska recently, and reported that she had taken four whales during the season and had lost four through insufficient gear for holding them alongside.
