SABBATH SCHOOL TEACHERS' INSTITUTE.
The second general meeting of the above institute was held in St. Paul's Church, Lichfield street, on Thursday evening, 26th inst. Mr C. B. Taylor occupied the chair. Mr Rtehards opened the meeting with prayer. Miss 'Verrall kindly presided at the harmonium, assisted by the members of the choir. The Rev. Mr Elmslie read an interesting paper on " How can we best cooperate with the parents?" The lecturer treated lis subject under the following heads : should be brought to bear on the matter of Sabbath school work. (2.) Visitation of the parents by (he teachers. (3.) Distribution of rewards and certificates of merit. (4.) Th« necessity for more vital religion amongst the teachers. A. discussion followed on the paper, in which the president, with Messrs Ross, Cooke, Richard , Staphs, and Wise, took part. Thy following resolution was then put and carried unanimously :—" That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the Rev. Mr Elmelie for his valuable paper, and that he allow it to be published." The following additional resolution was put to the meeting and carried:—" That this meeting, feeling very anxious for the preservation of the sacredness of the Sabbath Day, do heartily agree with Mr Councillor Lambert in his resolution before the Council to suppress Sunday trading, and heroby pledges itself to use all legitimate means in its power to assist him or the City Council to obtain any enactment or law which will enable them more efficiently to secure the Bacred observance of the Lord's Day." About fifty were enrolled as members of the institute, after which the meeting wan closed with the benediction.
