UNION BOWING CLUB. Maiden Paibs. The Dolphin, however, forged ahead, and won a good race by three lengths. Bowley rowed well throughout, but his bow showed evident signs of want of practice. SJjCOND HEAT. Daphne, south bank (F. A. Bodgers, cox) 1 Daphne, south bank (F. A. Brit tan and E. H. Woledge ;W. H. Woledge, cox) ... 2 The Dolphin took the lead almost from the start, and won by three lengths. On Saturday next the maiden double sculling races will take place, which will conclude the races on the river in connection with the Union Club until after the regattas are over. KAIAPOI REGATTA. A public meeting of persons interested in holding the annual regatta on the Waimakariri was held in the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chamber on Friday evening. There was a large attendance. Dr. Dudley occupied the chair. The Chairman explained the object of the meeting, and said though he was afraid this year it would be uphill work to carry out the regatta on the same scale as formerly, he would trust to those who were supporters of aquatic pastimes to assist in bringing its affairs out successfully. Mr J. Lowthian Wilson, late treasurer, read the statement of last year's accounts, showing a total expenditure of £B9 9s 6d, the amount of over £72 having been paid in prize money. There was a balance of £4 163 due to the treasurer.

The accounts were passed on the motion of Mr B. Moore, seconded by Mr W. Burnip. It was resolved, after some discussion, to hold the annual regatta, and on the same scale as last year if the funds would admit, a committee, consisting of Messrs B. Moore, W. Burnip, G. W. Wearing, and Wilson, being appointed to canvaes for the same. It was moved by Mr Moore, seconded by Mr C. E. Dudley, " That the regatta be hald on Wednesday, April 7th," to which an amendment was made, and carried, " Thatthe question of the date be deferred for consideration at an adjourned meeting on Friday next." A sum of £2l 16s was subscribed in the room, and the meeting then adjourned.
