Conspicuous amongst the public buildings which have sprung up during the laat year or two in Christchurch, are those which form what may be termed the educational block in the western quarter of the city. The latest of these handsome structures, the Boys' High School, is fast approaching completion, and will form an imposing add Mon to the adjacent college. The beauty of Mr Armson'a design can now be seen to advantage, the only drawback being the limited area on which the school stands. This however could not be obviated. The material used, Bangiora rock atone, will contrast very delicately with the dark granite columns to be placed in front of the buildings, and the porch when finished will add greatly to the beauty of the building. The roof is now oovered in, and the interior ready for the first coat of plaster. A commencement has likewise been made with the flooring. Those two great desiderata, efficient ventilation and heating, have received the most careful attention and the latest improvements been introduced to ensure thorough comfort in winter and summer. The hall and portico will be paved with Minton tiles, which are on board the ship Westland. Finally, the contractors are confident of completing the I building within the specified period, by winch time the Girls' High School will probably have been commenced.
