“ZOOLOGICAL EXERCISES.”
A little work bearing the above title has just been published by Professor Hutton, of the Canterbury College. The book contains an introduction and four parts. The first treats generally of the principles of zoology. Part I. is devoted to full instructions in the use of the microscope, with a series of exercises, which will be found of much value by the beginner. The second part, morphology, contains exercises on a number of common types, such as the sea anemone, earth worm, bluebottle fly, &0., with full description of each. The third part is occupied with a synopsis of the animal kingdom, and the fourth part bears the title “ systematic zoology ” to which is appended a glossary and index. The work appears to be admirably adapted to the purpose for which it is intended, namely, as an introduction to the study of zoology. “ The whole book,” writes the author, “ is intended to be supplemented by lectures, and students who are teaching themselves, should read Nicholson’s “ Manual of Zoology,” along with it.” Messrs J. Wilkie and 00., of Dunedin, are the publishers.
