NEW MAIL ARRANGEMENTS.
[By Tblhgeaph.]
[fbom otjb own cobbespondbnt.] Further information transpired to-day relative to the new arrangement with reference to the San Francisco mail. It appears that the outward mail will oontinue to leave on the dates fixed in the time table, time being saved between Auckland and London. With regard to the inward mail, it has been found time could be easily saved on parts of the route, so that the London mails will reach San Francisco on Saturday mornings, enabling the steamers to leave the same day. Besides this, the Pacific Mail Company have intimated their intention of instructing their captains to use all expedition on the transpacific passage, and they express the conviction that it will be practicable to save a clear day on the average at a very slightly increased cost. If so, the inward mails will reach Auckland even a day earlier than named, arriving on Sunday instead of Wednesday. The Government are communicating with the Union Company regarding the possibility of arranging with them for transmission of the mail direct from Auckland to Wellington, so far as the Otago, Canterbury, Wellington, Marlborough, and f-'outhland portions are concerned. Under this system the mails will reach Auckland in thirty-eight days, arriving there on Sunday, Wellington on Monday (thirty-nine days), Ohristchurch and Ducedin, Tuesday, forty days, and at the outside fortyone days. Under the new arrangement the March mail steamer will leave San Francisco on Saturday, the 13th prox., instead of on Monday, the 15th, as announced in the time table, arriving at Auckland on Sunday, 4th April, instead of Wednesday, 7th. The incoming mail, leaving San Francisoo on the 17th instant, will run according to the former arrangement.
