CRICKET.

ENGLAND v. COLONIES. This match was commenced on Saturday last, but did not produce such good cricket as usual. Tho Colonics having won the toss, took first innings, and put together a good total of 179, but tho bowling and fielding of England, with some exceptions, was not good. The Colonies began with E. J. Cottcrill and Watson, but the former was run out through an error in judgment by Watson. Reeves filled the vacancy, and both batsmen scored rapidly notwithstanding the frequent changes of bowling. When 77 appeared on the score sheet Roeves failed to stop a straight ball from Longden. Ollivier placed the ball in the hands of Secretan at short leg, but Frith caused the bowling to bo again changed before he was caught iu the slips for 19. Cohen and W. J. Cotterill fared badly, but Turner evidently meant to stay. Ho made several grand hits, one realising six runs. Watson was run out for a good innings of 39, Million made two good hits in front of point, for which he received 3 and 4, but was soon afterwards caught by the short stop. Fu ler made 7 and Beard a single before they were bowled, Turner being not out at the fall of the last wicket for a fine contribution of 35. The extras in this innings are very large, and assist the total considerably. England went in, and at call of time had lost two wickets for 56 runs, Oorfe and Secretan both getting out leg before wicket for 16 and 27 respectively. Secretan hit well for his_ score, a 5, two 4’s, two 3’s, &a., being his principal figures. The following is the score : COLONIES.
