IRISH RELIEF FUND.
The performance at the Theatre Royal last night in aid of the Irish Relief Fund failed to attract more than a Tory moderate amount of patronage. The performance was initiated by a prologue written for the occasion by Mr Ludford, and spoken by Mr Hull in a felling and spirited manner worthy of the subject. It was followed by the comedy of “ A Handsome Husband," in which Miss Florence Colville and Mr W. Hoskins appeared with their wonted success. After the comedy Miss Lizzie Morgan sang “ Jessie, the Flower of Dunblane," sweetly enough to secure an encore, when she gave “Barney O’Hea” with much piquancy and vivacity. Mr Hull then favored the audience with a recitation entitled “True Charity,” in which he displayed a great deal of elocutionary talent. The performance concluded with the well-worn burlesque on “La Sonnambula,” in which Mr J. P. Hydes created great amusement, and was cleverly supported by Miss Ruth Gray, Miss Amy Johns, and the Misses Herrick and Vincent, and Messrs Stark, Alexander, and Wilkinson. On Saturday evening the theatre will re-open for the autumn and winter dramatic season, with a well-organised company.
