Dbtjnk and Disobdkbly.—One man was fined IGs for drunkenness.
VaqbANCY. Callaghan McCarthy, remanded from the 12th instant, was charged under the Yagrant Act with haring no lawful risible means o£ support. The particulars of this case hare already been fully reported, and Sergeant Morice now stated that Mr March had informed him that McCarthy could not be re admitted into the Old Men’s Home, as, when an inmate before, he defied the rules of the institution, and his conduct was not to be tolerated. The defendant said he hoped he would not be sent to gaol for a risitation of Providence. His Worship told the defendant he beliered him to be a thorough old humbug and a loafer. He would be discharged now, but if brought up would be sent to gaol for a long period. Fame Pbetences. —Edward Emil Dransfield, remanded from the prerious day, was charged with obtaining goods and money from various persons by means of valueless cheques. There were four informations, as follows: For obtaining goods and money to the value of £6 16s 9d from Charles D. Innas; £1 from Alfred Tom Carter; £5 from William Pearce ; and a pair of boots value 18s 6d, and £1 18s in money from Henry Garrick. The accused pleaded guilty to all charges, and was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment for each, the sentences to run concurrently.
