BOARD OF HEALTH.
The Christchurch Local Board of Health met at the conclusion of the Drainage Board meeting. Present —Mr Harman (chairman), and Messrs Tancred, Reas, Hall, and Duncan. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read, The Chairman made the following statement :—I regret to have to report that Mr Pearce, the Inspector of Nuisances, has been laid up during the past week, and is likely, I fear, to be unable to return to his work for another fortnight. As it was a matter of necessity that the work of the office should be carried on, I have employed Mr Barnes temporarily, at a salary of throe pounds (£3) per week, and will ask the Board to approve the step I have taken and to sanction Mr Barnes’ employment until Mr Pearce is able to return to his work. The action of the chairman was approved. The accounts for the fortnight were submitted and passed. Infectious diseases recorded for the fortnight—Typhoid, 19 ; diphtheria, 1 ; scarlatina, 1. The Board then adjourned.
