THE AKAROA RAILWAY.

[By Telegraph.] [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 DUVAUCHELLE’S BAY, Feb. 9. A large public meeting of the representative men of the whole of the Akaroa County vrae held at the offices of tho Council hero to-day. Mr Jas. Dalglish, Chairman of the Council, was in the chair. The purpose was to appoint a deputation to meet the Minister of Public Works on his arrival in Christchurch in reference to the extension of the Akaroa railway. The Mayor of Akaroa moved —“ That a deputation bo appointed to wait upon the Minister for Public Works with a view to urging upon the Government the desirability of extending the Akaroa railway towards Akaror harbor.” The resolution was carried unanimously. On tho motion of Mr Williams, the following gentlemen were appointed as the deputation to wait upon the Minister : The Mayor of Akaroa, tho Chairman of the County Council, Messrs Garwood, Piper, Knight, Shacker, {Huy, Fleming, Coup, Parkinson, G-ebbie, Menzies, Jobliu, Williams, Barker, Shadbolt, Birdling, and the Rev. A. P. O’Oallaghan. The members of tho deputation met immediately afterwards and elected Mr J. D. Garwood chairman. The meeting, which was very enthusiastic, separated after a vote of thanks to the chair.
