WELLINGTON,' February 7.
The Government have received telegrams 'this afternoon conveying intelligence of a dispute among the Maoris on the Murimotu block, known as the Moorhouse block, in Teferenoe to the survey of the landThe quarrel is confined to the Hapus of Wanganui and Taupo tribes, headed respectively by Topia and Kenny. Tho former wishes the entire block to be surveyed, and then Mr Moorhouee's blocks laid off, Topia considering that his " mana" in that case would extend ■over the whole block. Kenny desires only Moorhouse's block to be surveyed, with a •view of maintaining his own "mana" over it. Both sideß talk very largely, and hint at "shoating" if others persist in survey, but it is not thought anything will come of it beyond hard words. In any case the dispute is purely a Native ons>, and quite outside of any question at issue between Europeans and the Maoris. Tho scene of the quarrel is some hundreds of miles distant from the Waimate Plains, and cannot in any way affect that matter. . , , ~ Th» latest telegrams received by the Government to-*ay from the West Coast of this isla r, d are to tho effect that eveiything continues going on satisfactorily. 'The Hinemoa landed the detachment of sixty Armed Constabulary sent yesterday Bafely at Opunake this morning at 9 o'clock, the weather being as favorable as possible. Titokowaru is expected back from Parihaka in a day or two, and it is believed that he will have received strict orders from Te Whiti not to interfere in any way with the constabulary, but to leave them to the puppmatural control of him (Te Whiti), this being the tone now assumed by the Parihaka prophet.
