leish DrsTHKSS Fund.—His Worship the Mayor has this day cabled to Dublin to the effect that £6OO has been raised in this province, that being the amount that has come to hand up to date. This sum includes the£2oo paid over through Father G-inaty. There are Btill a number of sources from which aid will come. _ There is the nett proceeds of the operatic performance last night, and the proceeds of the performance which Mr Hoskins will give in the Theatre Royal, as well as of a promenade concert which is on the tapis. There are also the various collections at the churches in Ohristcburch and suburbs. Mr O'Callaghan reports that he has met with great support in the oountry districts in tho direction of obtaining grain in bulk. He is at present canvassing the northern districts. In faot the total amount of relief raised, or whioh which may be reckoned on with an almost certainly, is very satisfactory, oompared with other parts of New Zealand, and taling the hardness of the times into consideration. Still the subscription lists are not closed, and the contributions of chose who have not yet given, or who wish to supplement their termor donations, will be eagerly received.

The subject was, " Why I, with 25 000 of my Countrymen, left the Church of Rome." A report of the leoture appears in another part of the paper. Ibish Distbess Fund.—Yt-sterday the Mayor of Christchurch received the proceeds of Father Ginaty's collection on behalf of the fund, and he will to day forward the first instalment to the Lord Mayor of Dublin, in terms of the resolution passed at the last meeting of the committee. Railway Picnic.—A meeting of the committee of management was held last evening, at which all ntceßsary arrangements were made for carrying out the picnic to take place to-morrow. A start will be made for the Racecourse from the Railway Station at about eight o'clock. The Voluntebb Review.—At the meeting of the review committee held last night, it was determined to apply to the Government for the use of the immigration barracks at the Easter Review for the billetticg of the men expncted to attend thereat. It was stated that the barracks would accommodate one thousand men, and offers were received from various hotel keepers to billet a number more in the city. The chairman last night mentioned that the Wellington City Guards, forty strong, with a band, intended to come to the review. Harmonic Society.—This society will hold their weekly practice in St. John's schoolroom, at 8p m. Members are requested to attend, as it is intended to give the concert at an early date. Okange Society.—A meeting of the L.0.L.., No. 3, 0.T.8., will be held in the Orange Hall, to-morrow evening.
