SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

LOWEB HEATHOOTE, The annual meeting for election of committee was held at the schoolroom, on Monday evening. There was a good attendance. Mr H. A. Bamford was voted to the chair. The report of the retiring committee for the year ending 31st December was as follows : onr committee beg to present a report of its proceedings for the year ending Slat of December, 1879. since the last annual meeting, tbe side school and master’s house at the Sandhills (which s bool the committee suggest should in future b« called “ Bromley school ”) have been erected, and your committee believe the school will be ready to open after the expiration of the present holidays. Camfield has been appointed ma«ter of the side school, and Mrs eamfi-l.i sewing mistress, and further teaching power will ho obtained in accordance with the Govern ment scale as soon as the number of children in attendance will warrant the committee in ap plying for the same. The committee fully concur in the report of the Inspector (Mr Edge), who states that the present buildings of the main school do not afford sufficient accommodation for the larve number in ordinary attendance and considering the age of the main portion of the present buildings, and the constant expense required to keep it in repair, your committee strongly recommend that steps be taken to erect a new school suitable to the requirements of this important district. Tour committee propose that the annual school treat and distribution of prizes should take place in March next. The committee b°g to record their thanks to the teachers for their attention and diligence, and the care given to the children’s welfare during the year. A statement of accounts, duly audited for the year, will be laid before you. H. Augustus Bamfobd, Chairman of Committee. It was moved by Mr Hayward, seconded by Mr Palmer—“ That the report and accounts be received and adopted.” Carried. On a ballot being taken, the following gentlemen were declared duly elected as the committee for the ensuing Tear, viz : —W. Attwood, H A. Bamford, J. Day, B. Wakely, H. Berry, Thos. Hayward, W. Palmer. On Mr Edge’s report on the examination held in December last being read, great satisfaction was expressed at the high p-r centago of passes (95) and the satisfactory position of the school. It was moved by Mr Thorne, seconded by Mr Day—“ That a vote of thanks be recorded to the bead master and teachers in the schools, and that the chairman be requested to forward a copy of this resolution to each of the teachers.” This was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr Yorke, seconded by Mr Wise, a vote of thanks was given to the retiring committee, and, after a cordial vote of thanks to the chair, the meeting terminated. The committee subsequently met and reelected Mr H. A. Bamford chairman for the ensuing year. ASHBURTON. The annual meeting of Ashburton householders to elect a school committee was held on Monday night. The annual report was satisfactory, the school having increased during the past year. The following were elected :—Dr. Stewart, Messrs St. Hill, H. O. Jacobson, Dean, Boyle and Andrew.
